Essay for test #2

Google has come along way from just being a search engine and providing users with information but to now allow users to create blogs and share their ideas with other users. Blogs have been influenced by many other types of media and going to effect the uses of other types of media. Blogging provides a faster way of spreading messages and gaining feedback, many Mass Communication specialists have and/or keep track of blogs to keep in touch of current events. This reminds me of Ernest Hemingway 6-word novel/classified ad "For sale: Baby shoes. Never worn." These are the types of ads that are put into blogs now-a-days and were started as simple ads in the newspaper that could only reach a certain amount of people. Now with Google adding on additions such as the blogging sites for people to share more information it reaches around the world.
Advertising has also picked up since the Internet and Google came around. Now instead of advertising relying on billboards and newspapers advertising companies can pay the Internet to send out their campaigns to a larger number of people. There are many different pros to using different types of media take print media for instance newspapers are said to be reliable. Broadcasting reaches a broad audience and is very easy to reach people because of radios in vehicles and stereos in the workplace, almost everywhere has a radio. With the use of Internet, which I personally think is the best choice, it reaches worldwide with the chance for people to state their opinion as well as it is very inexpensive.
The blog that I created on Google was free and I can reach millions of people. This blog is much like many of the network sharing sites such as Facebook http://www.facebook.com , My space http://Myspace.com , and Twitter http://Twitter.com which allow people to stay in touch with old friends as well as meet new ones. There are always advertisements on the side of the page on these sites and are noticed by the users. http://www.google.com/ads/ Google earned $1.9 of $10 billion in online advertising which is a huge chunk. Online advertising spends the least out of TV, newspaper, magazine, and radio and I think has proven to be one of the most successful. Everyone has access to the Internet, no matter how sheltered you are you can still go to the local library and use the Internet. Also Internet is now being used on cell phones which makes it attractive to the advertising, broadcast, and print companies. Many magazines are now published online as well as newspapers not to mention the hundreds of ads you see a day.
Phones bring me to my next point, computing. When my roommate and I are unable to catch a game of the Twins or Vikings we know that we can rely on Google. Google has an option where you can send a text asking for the score and it will send you the most recent score of whatever game you want. I love this feature and I think that Google needs to play it up. Not many people know about it hat I talk to and I think that they would appreciate it. When signing up for the blog Google sent me a text to my cell phone to give me a verification code. With Google making so many mobile changes the internet service for cell phones will go up. Also dealing with Computing Google offers a toolbar that will be posted on your page when you surf the internet. This makes it more likely to use Google than any other search engine because of the convenience. Government Policy and Law, the internet is protected under freedom of speech, however once this is putting peoples lives in danger officials must step in.http://www.google.com/support/blogger/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=150831 The Google blog spot has guidelines on what users can post ans say. Granted this is a site where people say what they want and gain feedback however, still need to act civil about the situation. They want to ensure the safety of the users and urge them not to put too much personal information on it. Users are to accept a User agreement before signing up part of that states that the user is to not post sexually explicit material, no violence or threats, copyright materials, and no hate speech. If these are guidelines are broken that the user can be kicked off of the blog spot or serve harsher penalties. http://www.google.com/support/blogger/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=150831 Google has had a big impact on the guidelines for other internet websites, because it has such a positive light many other companies look up to it and follow their ways.
As I stated earlier I believe that this blog spot is a great idea not only this blog spot but others all around the internet. Google has done an outstanding job and will continue to remain one of the top search engine sites with all that it has allowed to ad on.

Sunday.

First half of the Vikings-Bengals game and Minnesota is leading the game by three points. There has been so much hype on Brett Favre joining the team and he has proven to be successful. Another player that has been highlighted is Ochocinco of the Cincinatti Bengals. He has shown disrespect to his team with a $1 bribe to a NFL official and was fined $20,000. He also has been fined $30,000 for putting on a somrero and poncho after scoring a touchdown NFL officials have claimed that NFL players are not to bring items on the field that are not part of their uniform. Not saying that he is a bad player but I think he should have a little respect for his team and for the NFL. http://www.vikings.com/index2.html
